India in a nutshell

"I loved my motherland dearly before I went to America and England. After my return, every particle of dust of this land seems sacred to me."                                                                                                         -   Swami Vivekanand

India, the world’s largest democracy has a very diverse population, climate and geography, ranging from himalayas (worlds highest and the youngest mountain ranges) and the Indo-gangetic plains in the north to thar desert in the west, and deccan plateau in the south and central region.  The southern region of India is a large peninsula surrounded by Arabian sea and the Indian ocean.  Meghalaya, one of the states in India receives highest rainfall in the world.  Along with the diversity in the topography there is a huge religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity.  Indian culture is ancient and  a dynamic entity, spanning back to the very beginnings of human civilization. The concept of zero, decimal system and Arabic numerals (‘Hindsa’ in Arabic) originated in India.

Today, in modern India the tribals with their anachronistic lifestyle exist along with the sophisticated urban jetsetter. It is a land where temple architecture coexists amicably with the microchip. Its ancient monuments are the backdrop for the world's largest democracy where atomic energy is generated and scientific, art and industrial development along with developments in the information technology has brought the country within the world's top ten nations.
